Julia Fiona Roberts born to Betty Lou Bredemus (mother) and Walter Grady Roberts on October 28th in 1967. She comes from the fourth Roberts family who lived in Atlanta. This started with her grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was farmer. Her father had keen interest from a young age in the theater. When he was an undergraduate at Emory University, he performed in a variety of productions in Atlanta. He joined the Air Force in 1953. While being stationed at Biloxi Mississippi, he was a part of a military production that included Betty Lou Bredemus who was as well in the Air force. The couple got married in 2005 and had their first child, Eric Anthony in 1956. Walter was a student at Tulane University at New Orleans In 1957, the city of Louisiana where they had separated from the US Air Force. Walter joined Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio at the time they moved their family from Atlanta to Decatur in Georgia in the year 1960. Walter and Betty Lou began producing a children's television program in Georgia, Decatur called Bum Bum and His Buddies. They financed the production themselves. The Actors and Writers Workshop was established in 1964 and lasted for 6 years. In 1965, they welcomed two new children: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
